Medical research indicates that psychological factors can strongly affect a child's recovery from serious illness. A positive psychological outlook, it has been shown, enhances self-esteem, self-confidence and self-discovery and expression, all of which can facilitate the road to recovery. It has also been shown that a supportive and therapeutic framework that embraces the whole family can strengthen the physical, mental and social health of a seriously ill child.
The Jordan River Village has integrated these research findings into its operations and endeavors to provide care and a range of support services for sick children and their families. All of this while ensuring that each child has the happiest period in his or her life and that they have been given back part of their childhood. |

Additional Programs:
-
Family Retreats - the family weekend offers fun, exciting and medically safe programs that include shared family experiences, networking among parents, resource sharing and parent respite time.
-
Holiday Programs - this program is for the whole family and is a one day event celebrating the holiday "camp style.” The holidays may include Jewish, Christian and Muslim holidays.
-
Sibling Weekends - Siblings of children with serious illnesses also feel the affects of the illness on the family. Sibling weekends allow the opportunity for siblings to enjoy a weekend of camp and also bond with other children experiencing the same challenges.
-
Grandparents Weekend - The grandparents are very often involved in taking care of two generations - helping to care for the sick child as well as supporting the parents (their own children). They, too, need respite time, support and an opportunity to share feelings, experiences and information.
-
Care Givers Weekend - Especially designed for the medical and support teams taking care of seriously ill children. This will be an opportunity of respite time, sharing information and experiences and networking.
-
Outreach - Ongoing contact and programs for Village alumni.
-
Bereavement Programs - Families dealing with a seriously ill child can experience the loss of their child. The Bereavement Program will give these families a place to restore themselves and meet other families going through the same ordeal. | |
