Q: Are there free days and breaks during the week of volunteering in the village? A: Every counselor is entitled to a half day of vacation per session and a break of one to two hours each day.
Q: What is the process for being accepted as a volunteer?
A: Upon your request, detailed registration forms will be sent to you. After we receive the completed forms, we will contact you to schedule a personal interview (for applicants from abroad we will conduct a phone interview). You will be required to provide a medical certificate (vaccinations and a physical examination) and a police clearance form indicating no convictions for sex offenses. We are entitled to reject applications at any stage and without stating a reason.
Q: Is there insurance coverage during the period of volunteering at the Village? A: All volunteers at the Jordan River Village are fully insured during their stay at the village.
Q: Where do the Counselors sleep during their stay at the village? A: The Social Counselors sleep in the staff rooms, which are adjacent to the Campers' rooms.
Q: Is it possible to volunteer as a Social Counselor for part of a session?
A: No. Volunteer Social Counselors must commit themselves to a complete vacation session.
Q: Do the volunteers receive accommodation and meals?
A: Certainly, all the volunteers join the participants for meals in the dining room. which is kosher. Their accommodation is adjacent to the campers' rooms.
Q: If I want to hold a workshop for the participants, with whom do I schedule it? A: These and other questions regarding workshops should be sent to the Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@jrv.org.il
Q: Can volunteering as a Social Counselor be combined with an internship or practicum as part of my college studies?
A: We are working towards this with a number of academic centers. In addition, private initiatives may be formulated with the Volunteer Coordinator, who can be contacted at : volunteer@jrv.org.il
Q: Is it possible to volunteer for more than one session and, if so, do the volunteer sessions have to be consecutive? Separate?
A: We will be happy to have returning volunteers, dependent on confirmation of the group leader they worked with. The volunteer activity does not need to be consecutive.
Q: Is it possible to volunteer during periods when there are no vacation sessions at the Village, and for what tasks? A: Certainly! Between sessions, the Counselors participates in trainings and ongoing maintenance of the Village continues. We'll be happy to have the assistance of volunteers for these tasks as well.
Q: Is it possible to "volunteer remotely”, i.e. to perform tasks without being present in the Village and, if so – for what tasks?
A: Yes, there are tasks that do not require presence at the Village, such as – translating documents, interviewing volunteers throughout Israel (for volunteers with experience in interviewing) and more. Our Volunteer Coordinator is the person to contact for more information.: volunteer@jrv.org.il
Q: Is it possible to volunteer at the Village in the framework of Israeli National Service? A: Yes, it is possible to volunteer at the Village via Amutat Shlomit and the Aguda Lehitnadvut.
Q: Is it possible to volunteer at the Village as a group – for example a group of youth movement members or a school class?
A: In coordination with the volunteer coordinator, and assuming all members of the group are found suitable.
Q: Do I have to speak Hebrew? A: Basic knowledge in speaking Hebrew is preferable. |
